The EPA has set out the criteria and processes by which eligible disinfectant products can apply for the Emerging Viral Pathogens (“EVP”) claim which includes:

• The product is an EPA-registered, hospital type disinfectant with directions for use on hard, porous or non-porous surfaces.

• Currently accepted product label should have efficacy claims against at least one of the following viral pathogen groupings: enveloped viruses; large non-enveloped viruses and small non-enveloped viruses.

• There is no viral subgroup known to be more resistant than small non-enveloped viruses, thus a disinfectant product must be proven effective against at least two small, non-enveloped viral pathogens from different viral families.

Products with Emerging Viral Pathogens and Human Coronavirus claims for use against SARS-CoV-2. The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”).
